Tata Projects Ltd. has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd. (GSFC) for an integrated phosphoric acid–sulfuric acid (PA–SA) complex at Sikka, Jamnagar, Gujarat. The Mumbai-based Tata Group company said the contract marks an important milestone in its expansion into specialized process industries and reinforces its position as an EPC partner for complex industrial infrastructure.
The proposed complex will include a 600 metric tons per day (MTPD) phosphoric acid plant and a 1,800 MTPD sulfuric acid plant, together with associated utilities and offsite infrastructure. GSFC is developing the project as part of a strategic expansion and backward-integration program. The aim is to strengthen captive raw-material availability for phosphatic fertilizer production, reduce exposure to imported inputs and improve long-term operational resilience.
Integrated scope and delivery
The contract covers integrated development of the phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid manufacturing facilities, supported by necessary utilities and offsite systems. Because the two operations are interdependent, Tata Projects said successful delivery will require close coordination across engineering disciplines, procurement, construction planning and commissioning interfaces. Tata Projects said its integrated EPC approach will be central to managing these complexities while supporting efficient project delivery.
For Tata Projects, the contract represents a strategic advance in its process-industry business. The company said the award builds on sustained engagement with GSFC and demonstrates its ability to compete for complex industrial projects through differentiated solutions and a compelling value proposition. Rajiv Menon, president and chief growth and strategy officer, said Tata Projects' priority as it expands in chemicals, fertilizers and other specialized process industries is to build a high-quality, diversified order book anchored in technical expertise, execution credibility and enduring customer partnerships.
Portfolio and market positioning
The PA–SA award also supports Tata Projects' strategy of expanding across high-value industrial segments. The company's established capabilities include power, metals and mining, oil and gas, clean energy and advanced manufacturing. By strengthening its participation in chemicals and fertilizers, Tata Projects aims to deepen its process-engineering expertise, diversify its industrial portfolio and create sustained value through technically differentiated EPC solutions.
The project's significance lies in combining two interdependent process plants within one EPC scope while supporting GSFC's effort to secure upstream raw-material supply for phosphatic fertilizers.
